Staszek Zięba (the one from the Szombierki coalmine) has just finished his shift. After 8 hours of working underground with light coming only from a miner’s torch on his head, he smiles at the sun, drops his employee ID card, returns his torch to lamp room and takes off his everyday trousers on his way to the bathroom. After he takes his shower, still naked, he goes directly to a room with sun tan- ning lamps, where he walks around for a couple of minutes. „These sunshine showers” will compensate for the lack of sunshine while working long hours undergound. If the Sun became extinguished, it wouldn’t take more than a week for all life on Earth to become impossible to exist. Sunshine is the basic source of energy in the Earth’s energetic balance as a celestial body in the Universe for almost all forms of life. For years, the Sun has warmed our planet, contributing to the growth of hundreds of billions of flora and in the past has delivered energy that we are now extracting in the form of fossil oil and coal.
